Case Study:
Redefining Elegance Through Concept and Interior Design
Client: Mockingbird Club
Location: Denver, Colorado
Year: 2024
Role: Concept Designer & Interior Designer
Scope of Work: Concept Development, Interior Design, Space Transformation
As part of the Mockingbird Club, a multi-faceted venue in Denver, I was tasked with designing the small bar, an intimate yet impactful space inspired by the concept of an Enigmatic Odyssey. This bar was envisioned as a portal to forgotten stories, drawing from the lore of nomadic tribes and their timeless connection to storytelling, culture, and mystery. The design invites guests to immerse themselves in a journey of curiosity, interaction, and discovery, making the bar a unique focal point within the broader venue.
Challenges
Creating a cohesive and immersive design within a compact space that stands out in a venue filled with other themed areas.
Weaving a rich narrative into the bar’s design while ensuring practicality and functionality.
Designing with a limited budget while maintaining a high-impact aesthetic.
Process
Concept Development
Designed a narrative-driven concept inspired by the mockingbird, symbolizing adaptability, creativity, and individuality.
Created a vision for the club as a place where stories, connections, and art intertwine seamlessly.
Stained Glass and Lighting
Installed a 1923 stained glass window from a church behind the bar, illuminated with LED lights to create a mystical ambiance.
Strategically used lighting to highlight key features and add layers to the immersive atmosphere.
Interior Design Execution
Designed a bar top crafted from reclaimed wood, finished with epoxy resin to encapsulate symbolic objects like rose petals, miniature tarot cards, and artifacts.
The design symbolizes the fluidity and richness of the nomadic journey.
Interactive Elements
Introduced a spinning wheel with prompts to encourage guest interaction, such as sharing stories or engaging in spontaneous activities.
This feature creates a sense of community and playful connection.
Sustainability and Functionality
Incorporated sustainable materials, such as reclaimed wood and eco-friendly finishes, aligning the design with modern values.
Balanced intricate storytelling elements with the practical needs of a functional bar space.
Eclectic Décor
Curated an array of vintage photographs, skeleton keys, mirrors, and magical artifacts to tell layered stories.
These elements encourage guests to explore and uncover hidden details, enhancing the narrative.
